Complete Buffalo Nickel Set
It is not often that you come across a complete set of Buffalo Nickels including all key dates such as the 1913-S Type 2, 1918/7-D, 1937-D 3-Legs, etc. The major, key date coin that this set is missing is the 1916 Doubled Die Obverse.
Most coin collectors are not familiar with the 1916 Doubled Die Obverse. With only about 200 of them known in existence, it is no wonder that this coin is the key to the series and commands a major premium. Even in the poorest of conditions, this coin sells for in-excess of $2,000. The doubling on this coin is very easy to see with the naked eye and is most prominent on the date and the Indian Chief’s lips and chin.
The 1918/7-D over date is much more accessible than the 1916 DDO. Recent sales of the 1918/7 range from just over $500 to $66,000 for an example graded MS 64 that sold through Heritage Auctions in January 2018.
