Sell Coins in Wilmington

Overview

I have been collecting coins for over 25 years but only started this website in 2017.  As a long time coin collector, in the past, I typically would purchase coins at coin shows and through dealers.  I would talk to their other customers and quickly found out that the customers who were selling coins to the coin shops and coin dealers were offered significantly less for their coins than what they were worth.  This is not the fault of the coin shops and coin dealers since they have to cover their overhead and make a profit, but, I thought that there must be a better way.

I created this website in hopes of meeting people that want to sell coins or coin collections.  To my surprise, this website has become very popular and I have purchased about five coin estates and collections per month since the launch date.  The people that I buy coins from are extremely happy that I am able to offer more money for their coins than coin shops and coin dealers.  In return, I have been able to add many amazing coins to my collection!

The Process to Sell Coins to Me

Since I am a private collector, I do not have a retail store front and I only meet by appointment.  The easiest way to reach me is by calling 910-805-9616 or email me at WilmingtonCoins@gmail.com You can also fill out the contact form on my Contact Us Page.  When you call, I will typically ask for a brief description of what you have.  It is OK if you are not sure what coins you have as I can easily walk you through them.  The purpose of this is to prevent you from wasting any time.  Usually, I can tell you very quickly if I have an interest in the coins that you have and, if I don’t have an interest, I can usually give you several ideas on how to sell them based on what type of coins they are.  After we speak on the phone, we can figure out a convenient time for you to meet and then get together.

The Types of Coins I Buy

I will purchase single coins, coin collections, and estate coin collections.  I only collect United States coins – the only exception to this is foreign gold coins.  Most of the coins that I typically purchase can be found on the Sell Coins (Coins I Buy) page.  Keep in mind that there are many coins not listed on that page that I purchase as well.  If you think that you have something special, give me a call!

Here are some quick links to the most common coins I purchase:

Dimes

Quarters

Half Dollars

Silver Dollars

Gold Coins

Places NOT to Sell Coins

Jewelry Stores – Jewelry stores will only purchase coins based on their precious metal content.  That means that they will only buy gold coins and silver coins from you.  They do not account for any numismatic value (collector value) and will only pay a percentage of what the gold or silver content is worth in the coin.  This means that when you take your 1878 Carson City Trade Dollar to them, you will most likely be offered its melt value of $15 instead of its collector’s value of $1,000+.

Ebay – Many coins are sold on EBay every day.  This is not necessarily a bad thing but there are several things to consider prior to selling coins on sell coins coin shop coin dealerEBay.  The first thing to consider are the fees/costs associated with selling coins on EBay.  EBay will take the coin’s final sales price and charge a 12% or so fee for using their services.  PayPal will then take a 3% cut.  When you factor in shipping costs, shipping insurance, etc. you end up with significantly less than what the coin is worth.  The second thing to consider, is that once the coin is sold and shipped, you can only hope that the buyer is honest.  Even with tracking confirmation, if the buyer says that they did not receive the coin you may have to refund all of their money!

Pawn Shops – It is never a good idea to sell coins to pawn shops.  That is all I have to say about that!
